Marbles
- Humanity in scars and misshapenness
- Made to be broken, to become too damaged to be rolled
- Though true value lies in perfection
- Formed from broken glass
- Severed from a molten stream
- Touched by both man and machine
- Molded through one process but still unique
- Mishandling during creation disturbs the shape:
- One dripped and poorly rolled forms an oddity
- Two joining while hot forms a single, shaky sphere
- A mass cooled together forms glass for new marbles
- Playfulness, a desire to be seen
- A need to be held
- But a tendency to hide, to be difficult to find once rolled out of sight
- Chaotic in color
- Chaotic in sound
- Static in shape
- Self-soothing objects:
- Easy to hold
- Easy to place in one's mouth
- Solidity in sounds
- Fingers around the smooth cylinder of a cigarette translated to fingers on glass
- The lazy feeling of a marble rolling against a surface, just beneath a palm
